The standards of streetcare and grounds maintainance have dropped dramatically across the whole ward. Our community deserves better from the Council and Vivid.
Broken walls, fly-tipping, overgrown planting and weeds, crumbling garage forecourts. We see this neglect across the whole of Norden, not least in hotspots like Millard and Osborne Close, where the decay is particularly bad. Your Labour team of councillors are challenging Vivid (the association formed from the merger of Sentinel and First Wessex) to address these issues and raise their standards urgently.
It’s not just Vivid’s responsibility, however, our Conservative-run Council aren’t investing in more staff. So the streetcare and grounds maintenance teams are stretched to breaking point. Labour Councillors have tabled a motion at a Full Council meeting on 18th October calling for more investment in these vital services.
The wall in Osborne Close (pictured below) is a case in point. Earlier this year we challenged Vivid on the crumbling walls in the garage area in front of the shop. They promised to have the wall repaired within weeks. Due to no action from Vivid we put in a formal complaint and Vivid have finally repaired the wall last week. We’ve also highlighted many other walls throughout Millard and Osborne Close that need urgent repairs as well. The loose bricks left lying around are a real concern.
Norden residents deserve better and we are determined to make sure your voice is heard by those responsible. Small improvements are being seen – so we have been told the Council propose to do a month of intensive work cleaning the streets in Oakridge. It’s a small step, and it is long overdue. If you give me your vote in the by-election on 25th October, I’ll continue to hold both the Council and Vivid to account on these issues.
