I mentioned here how well used the recycling bank at the Upper Sherborne Road car park was, and I was speaking to residents only recently who were so pleased to have this facility.
Now I hear that the Council has decided to close all 29 of its mixed plastic recycling banks. I’m frankly disgusted at this decision. Your Norden councillors fought hard to get the one in Upper Sherborne Road. To be told now that tetrapacks, bottles and cartons will be incinerated, polluting the atmosphere is shocking.
As Norden councillor Paul Harvey said recently:
* if the Administration cannot help us recycle
* if they are withdrawing services
* if they are stopping people doing the right thing by recycling and in the end it all goes up in smoke at the incinerator
That is a damning inditement. We are all being told how recycling plastics is absolutely vital to save our planet and here in Basingstoke the Tory Council are now telling you to put your plastics, including tetra-packs, in your bin because they can’t recycle it!
If you elect me as your local councillor on 25th October, I’ll make sure I stand up and hold the council to account for local issues that people care about. It’s important to have a strong Labour team speaking up for residents. I’ll work hard as your Norden councillor to do that.’
